Have you ever picked up a book because you couldn't find the one you originally wanted?
Or taken a different path on a walk and discovered somewhere so peaceful that you wondered why you had never been there before?
Life has a remarkable way of placing things in our path when we leave room for discovery.
There is a beautiful word for this:
Serendipity.
Serendipity is the experience of finding something valuable that you weren't actively looking for.
It is one of life's quiet gifts.
Sometimes Spirit Leads Us Gently
One thing I have noticed over many years of working with people is that life rarely unfolds in the neat, orderly way we imagine.
People often come to me asking one question, only to leave having found an answer to something they hadn't even realised they were searching for.
I've always found that fascinating.
Sometimes what we need doesn't arrive because we searched for it. It arrives because we remained open enough to notice it.
I've lost count of the number of conversations that began in one place and gently unfolded into something far more meaningful. Looking back, people often tell me, "I wasn't expecting that to come up, but it was exactly what I needed."
Life has a quiet wisdom of its own.
The Joy of Wandering
Modern life encourages us to be efficient.
We search.
We filter.
We optimise.
We expect one question to produce one answer.
But some of the most important discoveries in my own life have happened completely by chance.
A conversation.
A book picked up on impulse.
A walk that took an unexpected turn.
A person crossing my path at just the right moment.
When we allow ourselves to wander, we give life room to surprise us.
Leave the Door Open
Perhaps that is why I still enjoy browsing libraries and bookshops.
I rarely leave with only the book I intended to buy.
Something catches my eye.
A title.
A photograph.
A sentence.
And suddenly I'm reading something I never knew I needed.
I think our spiritual lives can be like that too.
We don't always grow by finding the answer we were looking for.
Sometimes we grow because we stumble across a question we had never thought to ask.
So the next time something unexpected catches your attention, don't dismiss it too quickly.
Pause for a moment.
Follow your curiosity.
Life has a wonderful habit of placing the right people, the right books and the right ideas in front of us, often when we least expect it.
Perhaps that isn't coincidence at all.
Perhaps that is simply one of life's quieter ways of guiding us.
Thank you for spending a few quiet moments with me.
